Demos to Other Teams

A large part of safety is not only keeping yourself safe, but also watching out for the safety of others. If your team has a successful safety program, it is helpful to kick-start other team’s programs. You can do this by going and demonstrating your safety to each of them. Usually, teams have two or three delegates with a prepared demonstration. These delegates go to each individual team, and give them demos. Great things to give demos about are Lock-Out-Tag-Out, 5’s’, and battery safety. These are applicable in a direct way to competition behavior. Who knows, you may even create a lasting friendship with a team!

Helping out by giving demos is a great form of Gracious Professionalism and is quite effective. Try to focus on mentoring rookie teams who might not have known about the safety aspect of FIRST. Creating healthy competition with other teams encourages you to raise the bar at your tournament.
