Meet our fabulous mentors! They teach and guide us throughout the build season and our lives.

Brian Farrell is an IT leader at Rockwell Automation. He earned a BS and MS in Computer Science from UW Milwaukee. He has been a Mentor with CORE for 8 years now, and he is the team’s lead mentor. In his free time, he likes spending time with his family, being outdoors, and working with computers.


Nancy Farrell is a System Engineer for Magnetic Resonance. She earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and MS EECS from Marquette. This is her first year Mentoring with CORE, and mostly helps the Business subteam. She enjoys spending her free time with family, and also likes teaching, music, learning, sports, and helping others.


David Boyd is currently a senior engineer at Stantec Consulting. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from UW Madison. He has been involved with CORE for six years now, his primary focus is with the Field and Mechanical subteams. He loves playing with robots in his spare time as well as at CORE


Kevin Carroll is currently a Logistics Leader at GE Healthcare. He has a communications degree from UW Whitewater. This is his first year helping at CORE, mostly working with the Business subteam. He’s too invested in CORE to have any hobbies.


Curtis Doane is a principal controls engineer. He attended Kettering University. He has helped CORE for 10 years now, mostly helping with the Controls subteam. In his free time, he enjoys programming, woodworking and general tinkering.


Steve Reske is currently a firmware engineer at Kar-Tech. He holds a BS in Computer Engineering from MSOE. He has been involved with CORE for ten years now, with this being his 7th year as a mentor. As a mentor, he helps with Drive Team, Controls, and Scoutagy. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games, flying quadcopters, and building 3D puzzles.


John Dethloff, known as “JD” is a Program Manager for EmbedTek. He has worked with the company
since it’s early days helping to grow and build their production facility and helps to bring customer
visions to reality, specializing in custom compute engines. His experience ranges from mechanical and
electrical design, to continuous improvement and lean principles. He primarily helps with the
Mechanical Team but has been known to dabble with design input. In his spare time, he enjoys working
outdoors, working on cars, designing and fabricating, home improvement, and fixing everything broken
or “not good enough.” His motto is “Modify Everything!”


Jake Sajdak has been involved with CORE for 5 years, 4 as a student, and has returned as a mentor this past year. When not at robotics, he is a Civil Engineering Technician for the Village of Germantown. If he’s not working or mentoring, you can find Jake playing games, out with friends, and relaxing at home. While primarily involved with the Mechanical subteam, he has leant his skills to the design and scouting/strategy teams, and commentating matches.
