Everyone was extremely pleased by the quantity and quality of prototypes that came into the meeting. Some prototypes were made with Inventor, AutoCAD, or 3ds max. Some were made with pencils or measuring cups, and some were simply made out of paper and cardboard. Mentors were extremely impressed by the level of creativity shown both in the prototype construction and the actual ideas themselves. After everyone presented their ideas, we began to narrow down our options via consensus. It was a great learning moment for the rookies. Everyone stepped back from their own ideas and analyzed the pros and cons of each idea individually. By the end of the night, we eliminated the possibilities to two great robots. For Saturday, students will think about both designs and make a decision, so that we can begin work on the fabrication of the robot on Saturday.
